A bit of History from 20 Years Ago.

As Andy was having a bit of clear up in his office at Ratsey & Lapthorn Sailmakers last week where he is still working full time he stumbled across this fantastic old newsletter from the foundation from back in 1999.

This newsletter absolutely blew our minds, myself (Matt) especially as I only meet Andy back in 2011 through my work in the RYA, yet living in Cowes since 2001 when I came here as a Graduate to UKSA, Since then I only ever heard the stories. I’ve been driven to re-build and re-launch the charity off of the back of these stories, the passion they have been told with and the support I and my sailors over the years have had from many of the individuals names in this Newsletter.

None of what we are trying to build on would have been here today if it were not for the support and passion of the sailors mentioned in this article. Many names which I have heard, and yet still to meet. and Many who are no sadly no longer with us.

We are aiming to achieve something which is still today not happening anywhere in the world. Even though there isn’t a Paralympic Games for sailing we will continue to create better opportunities which are inclusive and equal.

This article is to thank all of those mentioned or not for their support and building our inspiration we have today, you were all part of it.

Apologize if I miss anybody but a huge thank you to all of you and i hope if anyone is keen to help us rebuild these opportunity for disabled people, weather it be sailing, shore based or donating then please do get in touch via info@acfsailing.org
